Tanka Fund builds relationships and community at IAC and NBA conferences

Our team kicked off 2024 with two conferences, reinforcing our mission to restore Buffalo to Native lands, lives, and economies.

IAC Annual Conference – Las Vegas, NV

Our Tanka Fund team connected with over 1,200 Native agriculture leaders at the 2024 Intertribal Agriculture Council’s Annual Conference where we raffled off two Tanka Fund blankets, and had meaningful conversations about supporting private Native ranchers — especially in the Navajo population. We also identified a growing need for more Native tanners.

Highlights included meeting professional bull rider Cody Jesus and reconnecting with longtime ally Sioux Chef Sean Sherman. As a sponsor, we were honored to attend the concurrent ITBC conference, where our executive director, Dawn Sherman, joined discussions with USDA, The Nature Conservancy, and The World Wildlife Foundation.

National Bison Association Winter Conference – Denver, CO

The Tanka Fund booth at the National Bison Association’s 30th Anniversary Winter Conference stayed packed with visitors eager to learn about our mission. We shared highlights from our Climate Smart program and gave away a few Limited Edition Tanka Fund Blankets.

Beyond the booth, we absorbed invaluable insights, strengthened key relationships, and connected with others equally dedicated to ensuring a future where Buffalo thrive on Native lands with their rightful caretakers.
