HOW TO BECOME A RANCHER PARTNER
What we look for in a Buffalo caretaker partner
Tanka Fund is always looking for new Buffalo caretaker partners. Following are some of our main criteria:
You must be a tribal member.
You must have a passion for working with Buffalo.
We work with Native owned/operated or managed Buffalo ranches that are family or community based.
Do you have enough land? It takes anywhere from 20 to 40 acres to sustain one animal.
What resources do you have at hand? Financing, a conservation plan and a business plan are very important to a sustainable operation. If you don’t have the financing or completed plans, Tanka Fund can help you find potential resources and create/refine plans.
What are your conservation goals? Soils, grasses, trees, water are key components of a sustainable plan for the animals’ health and the environment. Tanka Fund can work with you on establishing your conservation goals.
Do you have a plan for your operation’s generational longevity?
Why consider becoming a Tanka Fund rancher partner?
Tanka Fund supports private Native ranchers by:
Expanding their Buffalo herds
Giving direct grants to support, expand, and sustain existing ranch operations
Providing technical assistance and training
Working with new start-up ranchers, established ranchers, or those who seek to convert their ranches from other livestock to Buffalo
