Summary

More than 300 people came out July 27 in Rapid City, S.D., to meet the Sacred Storm team and tour the new processing facility, field harvesting trailer and the Warrior Lodge employee housing. Tanka Fund partnered with two other Native nonprofits, Wambli Ska Okolakiciye and Makoce Agriculture Development, to purchase Sacred Storm Buffalo with support from NDN Collective.

Key highlights from the event:

  • Meeting Tanka Fund Buffalo rancher partners and talking to young Wambli Ska apprentices, who are learning the arts of field harvest and meat processing

  • Learning about the Makoce Food Hub, which is committed to re-indigenizing Native food systems

  • Enjoying delicious Buffalo and other treats. Attendance was so strong that we ran out of food!

  • Playing games, such as a dunking booth, and listening to music

  • Guests received a swag bag with a variety of goodies from participating organizations
