Our Rancher Partners: Bamm Brewer

Charles "Bamm" Brewer of Charging Buffalo Ranch on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota is one of Tanka Fund’s rancher partners. Tanka Fund has helped him with animals, fencing, ATVs, and funding for hiring workers for his ranch.

Bamm also runs Charging Buffalo Meat Processing Facility where he processes Buffalo and other local meats, which helps feed and improve the economy of the Lakota community where he lives. Culturally and spiritually speaking, Bamm said having the facility is not only because Buffalo are sacred to the Native community, but also to honor his ancestors' "Buffalo way of life" which is "more healthy.”

What sparked Bamm’s interest in creating his facility is the fact that the Lakota tribe receives surplus Buffalo from Badlands National Park for cultural, educational, and economic purposes. He kept watching as those Buffalo were sent off to be processed offsite and he wanted to keep the revenue on the reservation. He said he also wanted to process meat for the local ranchers.

In the video below, Bamm talks about why he was inspired to become a Buffalo rancher for the next generation.
