CLIMATE SMART PROGRAM
Program provides incentives for sustainable land management practices
Tanka Fund’s Climate Smart incentives program is part of a national effort to create market opportunities for commodities produced under land management practices considered to be ‘climate smart’ and sustainable, under a recognized “Climate Smart Agriculture” (CSA) label. To help develop this market, the USDA has provided funds for livestock buyers to offer a premium to producers who enroll with Climate Smart Agriculture programs.
The program provides:
Ecosystem restoration and resilience
Support for implementing ecosystem restoration projects, such as restoring native grasslands and enhancing biodiversity on ranch lands.
Assistance in mitigating the impacts of climate change by restoring degraded ecosystems, improving water management, and enhancing habitat for wildlife.
Promotion of practices that increase resilience to extreme weather events, such as droughts and floods, thereby safeguarding the livelihoods of ranchers and the health of their ecosystems.
Capacity building and training
Opportunities for training and education in climate-smart agricultural practices, soil health management, and biodiversity conservation.
Access to technical assistance and extension services to enhance ranchers' knowledge and skills in sustainable land management techniques.
Financial support and resources
Access to grants, loans, or funding opportunities to support regenerative agriculture practices.
Provision of financial incentives for implementing climate-smart initiatives, such as soil carbon sequestration projects or biodiversity conservation efforts.
Accessible to all ranchers, the program focuses on collaborative partnerships
The Climate Smart program ensures accessibility to all ranchers, regardless of background or scale of operation, through its open availability of grants, loans, and subsidies.
Through collaborative partnerships with diverse stakeholders, including government agencies, NGOs, and private sector organizations, the program extends its reach and impact, fostering equity in sustainable agriculture initiatives.
